Frequently asked questions
How does this work?
You paste a public YouTube link. The server asks YouTube for the caption tracks that already exist on that video and returns one of them as a timestamped transcript. Nothing is transcribed from audio and no AI model is involved.
Why does my video say it has no captions?
This tool can only return captions that already exist on YouTube. If the video's owner disabled captions and YouTube has no automatic track, there is nothing to retrieve. Private, members-only, age-restricted, or region-blocked videos are not supported either.
Which languages are supported?
Every caption track the video actually has — manual or auto-generated, in any language. When several tracks exist you pick the one you want. Auto-generated tracks are labeled so you know the accuracy may be lower.
Do you store my transcripts?
No. The transcript is returned to your browser and is not saved by this site. Downloads (TXT, SRT, VTT) are generated in your browser from the segments already on the page.
Is every public video supported?
No, and we don't claim that. Captions must already exist, YouTube may rate-limit or block requests, and very long transcripts above our size limits are rejected. Caption accuracy — especially auto-generated — is not guaranteed.
