What we process
- When you submit a YouTube URL, this site processes it on the server, extracts the video identifier, and sends that normalized identifier directly to YouTube to retrieve an existing caption track. The full URL you typed is not sent anywhere else and is not stored.
- For abuse prevention, the server derives a keyed hash (HMAC) of your network address and stores short-lived request counters under that hash. The raw IP address is not kept in our application database.
What we do not keep
- Transcript content is returned to your browser and is not persisted by this application. Downloads are generated in your browser.
- We do not store submitted URLs, video identifiers, video metadata, transcripts, or clipboard/download activity.
- We use no analytics scripts, advertising, fingerprinting, embedded YouTube player, or non-essential cookies. Aggregate, content-free server metrics (latency, error rates) are our only telemetry.
Third parties
- YouTube receives the server-side caption requests under its own policies. This service is independent from and not endorsed by YouTube or Google.
- Firebase / Google Cloud and other network infrastructure this site runs on may process standard request metadata, such as your IP address, under their own policies, even though our application database does not retain the raw value.
Retention
Rate-limit counters expire automatically: daily counters within about 48 hours and monthly aggregates within about 45 days.
